- My History
- Attended Willis Business College. Went to work for
SM Unified School District in the Business Department and then for the Director
of Secondary Education. Met my husband, Andy, through his mom who also worked
there. Married in 1971 while he served out the balance of his 4 years in the US
Navy. We had a son (Mike) and daughter (Monica) and I was able to be a stay at
home mom.
Andy opened his own mortgage loan business and I helped him in
the business while raising the kids. We were always active at St. Monica Church
but once the kids started school there we became the involved parents. I did
the Girl Scout thing while Andy did Cub Scouts. I served on the PTC board for
the time they were in Elementary School.
Once high school began we
became involved with the Performing Arts Association, and I also worked for 2
years as Alumni Director. Eventually I became a full time volunteer in the
Music Ministry Office at the Church which also entailed being involved with the
High School Choral Group (Rainbow Riders). We helped coordinate a trip to Rome
in 2000 for that group of kids. During this time I was also doing the books for
our business. We chaired the St. Monica Octoberfair in 2000 and 2001 (with the
help of our adult children).
We eventually closed down the mortgage
business and have been running our hotel, Venice Beach Suites & Hotel (on
Venice Beach) for 20 years (with our son-in-law as our General Manager). I say
I finally graduated from St. Monica when I gave up my volunteer position in
2003! I haven't strayed far from home, still living in SM and attending St.
Monica! We have 2 grandchildren who are now 4th generation St. Monica
Elementary School students!! (The other 2 grandchildren live in Huntington
Beach...)
